This is actually a story about an event I attended about a month ago to celebrate the launch of Forza Horizon 2 (click here for our review) but unfortunately due to technical difficulties I wasn’t able to post the story. Until now! Anyhow, the reason why this launch event was special is because rather than do the usual “party in LA with open bar and Asian fusion hor d’oeuvres” the team behind Forza Horzion 2 teamed up with Lamborghini to do something more. In the month before the release, Lamborghini and Turn 10 Studios reached out to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica and challenged the kids to create their own livery design for the new Lamborghini Huracan on a blank template. The designs would be looked over by Lamborghini’s own design chief and the winners would have their designs put into the game.
Fast forward to launch day and Dan Greenawalt himself along with Jason Chinock, the North American marketing manager for Lamborghini visited the kids at the Boys and Girls club to announce the winners. However, what the kids didn’t know is that they also planned a huge surprise as Lamborghini brought several models including the classic Countach and the brand new Huracan and parked them right on the playground along with several mobile gaming stations so that the kids would be among the first to play Forza Horzion 2. Hot Wheels also chipped in with two huge Santa Clause sacks of die cast cars to give away. Oh and one more thing, at the event Microsoft announced that they would donate Xbox One consoles to all of the Boys and Girls Clubs in the region! How cool is that?!
Maybe its fate that I was unable to post this story until now since this story certainly seems suitable to the upcoming holiday season. I would love to see other brands follow Turn 10 and Lamborghini’s lead by turning their press events into opportunities to do some good.
