NAIAS 2014: Scion FR-S And tC Finally Get Leather In New “Monogram Series” Trim Debuting In Detroit!

When the FR-S was released I was lucky enough to spend a week with one.  I also have more than a few friends who own one and love the FR-S deeply.  Although despite how awesome the car is there were a few  things that both my colleagues and myself felt was missing from Scion’s RWD coupe: leather interior and premium sound.  Despite its price the FR-S is a proper sports car and proper sports cars should have a leather option, alas the FR-S did not.  While it may seem like a glaring omission it is likely that leather was left off the table to help keep the cost down.  This is a totally logical move by Scion but sports car guys really like leather!  In fact one of my aforementioned buddies wanted it so badly that after he bought his FR-S he took it to an upholstery shop to have his entire interior re-done in leather!  He was the first FR-S owner in the country (maybe the world) to do so!

Well it looks like Scion has heard the cries for moo-hide as they have just announced that they will debuting the “Monogram Series” at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS AKA Detroit Auto Show) next week and Scion will be giving the people exactly what they want.  Not only will the Monogram Series FR-S have a leather interior, it will also include premium sound by BeSpoke with navigation, HID headlights with LED daytime running lights, smart key with push button start, and heated front seats!

But wait! There’s more! The Scion tC is getting the Monogram Series treatment too!  Yes, now both the FR-S and tC can be had with leather, premium sounds, and other goodies.  The Monogram Series option package will tack on an extra $1,900 to the FR-S MSRP while the tC package will add about $1,500 to the total price.  If FR-S buyers want the premium “white out” exterior color then they’ll need to drop an extra $395.

If you are looking to buy a Scion FR-S or Scion tC in the near future and you want this package then I highly suggest you contact your dealer ASAP as only 2,000 FR-S examples and 2,500 tC examples will be produced! Move fast!  Otherwise enjoy some pics below by clicking the thumbnails and for full details on the Monogram Series package feel free to read the official press release below as well.
