Say what you will about the Gran Turismo video game franchise. Whether one loves or hates it, no one can argue the fact that Gran Turismo has changed what players expect from racing games. Despite all the huge blockbusters that have made their way to Playstation, Gran Turismo remains the best selling franchise in the console’s history. Many people (including myself) bought their first Playstation (be it PS1, PS2, or PS3) just for Gran Turismo. The game has more than just a cult following and it has made real contributions to the automotive industry and to motorsports with the GT Academy.
While much is known about Gran Turismo itself, its creator Kazunori Yamauchi remains something of a mystery. He is not someone that I would refer to as a “public figure”. Unlike his colleagues he does not put himself “out there” much with press junkets and the like. The only thing that is truly known about Yamauchi-san is that he is a major perfectionist. Even when it comes to the finest details Kazunori wants excellence and nothing less.
In an upcoming documentary titled KAZ: Pushing the Virtual Divide viewers will get an inside look at what Kazunori Yamauchi is really like from the perspective of the people who know him, have worked with him, and from the man himself. You can check out the official trailer below.
