Ryan Hunter Reay AKA “RHR” is what you may call a trend setter among open wheel drivers. He was one of the first Champ Car guys to switch to the IRL “before it was cool.” Unfortunately it hadn’t paid off too much for him since the move, or so many thought until yesterday.
You see at the end of a comedic spin and crash filled race at the famed Watkin’s Glen road course in New York, Reay was able to nab is first ever Indy Car Series win. It was a very “American’ win at that, An American driver with an American sponsor (Ethanol) at a classic American race track. Where were the other top contenders like Scott Dixon, Ryan Briscoe, and Dan Wheldon? They were all crashed out. Heck Dixon took himself and Briscoe out because of a mistake he made during a caution! It was pretty comedic.
